WANTED: SYDNEY'S GREATEST POP MUSIC TRIVIA BRAIN

After five years of testing some of the best music trivia brains in Sydney, the Pop Heads crew is turning up the volume to find the best of the best.

From October through to December, on the second Monday night of each month, the Pop Heads Music Quiz will take the form of a championship challenge to find the best pop music trivia team in Sydney.

There will be monthly winners, and scores from all teams will be collated. The Grand Final will be on Monday, December 8, when one team will be crowned Sydney's Ultimate Pop Heads Rock Brain.

That team will also win the major prizes: a private party at The Sandringham with Dave Tice (Buffalo) and Mark Evans (ACDC) - a $200 gift voucher at Sydney¹s premier music store, Fish Records in Newtown ­ a turntable and vinyl gift voucher from Egg Records, Newtown and The Pop Heads Championship Trophy.

The competition will be held at Pop Heads' most renowned venue, the Sandringham Hotel in King Street, Newtown, starting at 8 pm sharp each night.

Since 2003, host Roddy Lee and his crew have hosted more than 200 multimedia Pop Heads quizzes at the venue and given away more than 10,000 LP records as prizes. That's more than 50 pre-loved nostalgic vinyl treasures a night.

"The knowledge of our regular players has at times astounded me," says Lee, whose wacky delivery and infectious enthusiasm make the quizzes memorable events. "But we would like nothing better than for a team of new players to emerge that can knock them all off their Pop Heads perches."

The questions are sourced from "the vinyl years" - the 1950s through to the 1980s. They relate to the songs and stars of those decades, and come complete with music and sometimes visual clues.

"If you think you know your Abba from your Rolling Stones from your Daddy Cool, then this could be the quiz challenge for you," says Lee.

POPHEADS was launched at The Sandringham Hotel, 387 King Street, on Monday 30 June 2003.

Over 60 music grabs are played during this three hour show where the audience are drilled on music questions from THE VINYL YEARS (i.e. The Birth of Rock & Roll to The Death of The Record).

Great vinyl prizes are to be won as each night the POPHEADS crew search for the Winning POPHEADS Team Champions and The Ultimate ROCKBRAIN.

Roddy Lee (ex producer at Burbank Animation Studios) and Dennis "The Lovely Loretta" Collins (of Minibeasts Australia) present this great audio experience with three hours of madness and memories.

As well as great vinyl prizes there is POPHEADS merchandise and audio CDs from the era of music played to be won.

So if you know who Vanilla Fudge were, what year Woodstock was, when The Sex Pistols released Bollocks, where the infamous The Star Hotel stood or the name of Kylie's first UK #1 hit then you could be the next punter crowned The Ultimate ROCKBRAIN. POPHEADS is a full-production show engaging audience participation.
